AT&T Corp has announced a line of personal computers to target primarily the small office, home office sector. Its Globalyst range (or as the CeBIT press kits reported Globalystrange personal computers – a mistake no one noticed at first given AT&T’s Californian management style) cover every level from notebook to minitower and will start at around $2,270. Depending on the model, Globalyst personal computers are equipped with 80486 processors as well as Pentium processors. The Globalyst range has one feature other personal computers in its class lack, the company said, and that is Vistium Share software. It opens a new dimension in computing and communication between colleagues, said AT&T. With the software, two Globalyst personal computers connected on a network, with at least a 9600bps modem, can look at the same data at the same time, even though in reality the data is only visible on one machine. The same data can be altered in the same way because the software enables the same shari ng of information. Vistium Share enables communication whether the customers share the same building, or sit in offices on different continents, said AT&T. The company is confident that the product line will appeal to design agencies and other entrepreneurs. The Globalyst range of products is available now and will be distributed through indirect channels such as value-added resellers and certified dealers.
