The company, which was formed after Attachmate and WRQ were acquired and merged by an investment group led by Francisco Partners, Golden Gate Capital and Thoma Cressey Equity Partners, hit the headlines in May when it announced it is acquiring systems and security management player NetIQ for $495m.
AttachmateWRQ’s David Bennett, VP of international operations, said of that deal: [Our] strategy remains the same: we call it Extend, Manage and Secure. Our host access and integration business forms the extend part, and NetIQ clearly fits into the manage and secure pieces.
Once that deal is completed AttachmateWRQ intends to change its name to Attachmate-NetIQ.
It said that the new release of its Reflection for Secure IT product, meanwhile, has a new, fully supported version of SSH for z/OS. Designed specifically for secure file transfer, the firm said this new SSH on z/OS-based version includes the mainframe in the security loop that protects file transfers on other systems, including Unix, Linux and Windows.
With clients and servers running on Windows, Unix, Linux and now z/OS platforms, Reflection for Secure IT gives enterprises network authentication and encryption protection from eavesdropping, hacking and industrial espionage, the company claimed.
This new release also introduces clients and servers for Linux on IBM zSeries mainframes. There is simplified certificate management with Reflection Certificate Manager; acceptance of single sign-on authentication certificates with Reflection Key Agent and integrated multi-host SSH configuration support.
Finally the new release sees the addition of smart card support; automatic Kerberos sign-on; support for IBM Express Logon Feature, or ELF; and support for 64-bit platforms such as Microsoft Windows XP x64 Edition.
