Bellevue, Washington-based Attachmate Corp has announced Pathway NFS Client 95 version 5.0, a combination of a new Windows95 Network File System client and existing Network File System for Windows 3.X and MS-DOS. The product is designed to give Windows95, Windows 3.X, and MS-DOS users transparent access to file systems on servers using the Network File System. Pathway NFS Client 95 gives users drag-and-drop file sharing and transfer claimed to be significantly faster and easier to use than File Transfer Protocol. It is available as a stand-alone product or as an add-on to Attachmate’s other Windows95 products. The product can be installed in less than six minutes, says Attachmate, through the Windows95 Setup Wizard, and uses a 32-bit VxD Network File System client. It also includes a Windows95 Explorer interface, is compatible with Pathway or Windows95 TCP/IP stacks, and is claimed to be fully WinNet application programming interface v5.1 compatible. Other features of the product include support for PC-NFS v2.0, enhanced security via file and record locking, simplified mounting of Network File System directories through authentication cacheing, and support for up to 24 simultaneous connections. It offers complete printing capabilities, including print redirection, and can be used as a print client using remote Network File System, or as a print server through LPR print services. PostScript, non-PostScript, or ASCII text files can be printed. The product supports up to 2 3 simultaneous network drives and three remote printers. It also supports a variety of protocols including TCP, UDP, IP, ICMP, and ARP. Later this year Attachmate plans to add Pathway NFS Client NT. Available now, the new version has a suggested retail price of $100 for a single user.
