Bellevue, Washington-based Attachmate Corp last week unveiled Emissary TCP Server, a scalable, high-performance TCP/IP-to-SNA internetworking offering for large enterprises – the fruits of its January acquisition of Palo Alto, California-based Wollongong Group Inc. Promising productivity-enhancing application services, high-speed communications hardware options and tight integration with existing Attachmate client software, Emissary TCP Server is touted as a complete end-to-end server and client system. Emissary was the jewel in the crown of Wollongong, now Attachmate’s Intranet Products Group. Emissary TCP Server is a scalable enterprise gateway that enables companies to connect thousands of TCP/IP users to their SNA hosts while providing centralized administration and management functions, says the firm. It supports up to 2,000 simultaneous TCP/IP connections, up to 5,000 sessions through Attachmate’s SNA-over-TCP/IP encapsulation protocol for full IBM 3270 display and printer functionality and up to 2,000 sessions with TN3270. It is further said to support simultaneous connections to multiple host systems. Emissary-supported clients include Windows, Windows95 and NT, OS/2, Mac OS, Unix, and MS-DOS. It is available now and licenses are based on the number of concurrent users, ranging from $11,500 for 250 users to $65,000 for 2,000 users.
