AT&T Corp has launched an Application Developer Programme for its forthcoming public data network service – comprising Network Notes (CI No 2,377) and NetWare Connect Services (CI No 2,407) – in an effort to encourage take-up by service providers. Programming, technical and marketing information will all be provided as part of the programme, while AT&T is also setting up Application Development Centres for the creation, testing and performance certification of applications. Simultaneously, AT&T announced four market trials of the Network Notes component of the service, which is being developed in conjunction with Lotus Development Corp. Compaq Computer Corp, First Albany Corp, Individual Inc, and 3M Co have joined Egghead Software Inc as the first of the market trials. The trials fall into two categories: Compaq and 3M are experimenting with Network Notes as a means of distributing product, marketing and technical information to distributors and customers, as is Egghead, while First Albany and Individual will make their news services available via Network Notes.
