AT&T Co has won itself an $86m eight year contract from the US Department of the Treasury for a digital telecommunications switching system expected to be the largest private Integrated Services Digital Network system in the world: initially the contract calls for the installation of a 26,000-line Number 5 ESS switching system to serve the Washington metropolitan area but the final value could well be expanded to over $100m.
