AT&T Co is celebrating a contract to engineer, install and maintain an electronically switched digital communications system of computers and an advanced data network for the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and the Sandia National Laboratory, both in in Livermore, California: the Livermore Laboratories Information Exchange will provide basic and advanced voice service and high speed data networking, and involves installation of a Number 5 Electronic Switching System – AT&T’s flagship digital telephone exchange – with Integrated Services Digital Network, high speed voice and data devices, multiple data networks, and a new premises distribution system, plus 7,500 ISDN telephone sets and a complete support structure for training, installation services, software development and overall project management; the system, value not given, is to be completed in l8 months and supported for 10 years.
