AT&T Corp reports a $45m contract to design, install and maintain a 820-mile undersea fiber-optic telecommunications system between the US and Bermuda. The cable system will be privately owned jointly by TeleBermuda International Ltd in Bermuda and TeleBermuda International LLC in the US, and will link a cable station on the US east coast to Lands End in Bermuda. Slated to begin service in 1997, it is the first phase of a two-part project that, once completed, will connect Bermuda up with the US and Europe.
