AT&T TO PREVIEW “EASY” UNIX USER INTERFACE TODAY

By CBR Staff Writer

AT&T Co is scheduled to announce its new easy-to-use Graphical User Interface for Unix, which will define the look and feel of screens put up by future releases of Unix System V. The new interface is expected to be compatible with X Window 11 and Sun Microsystems’ News, and also with Display Postscript – and may be based on work being done by Steve Jobs’ Next Inc (see page 2). Much of the work for the new interface is thought to have been done by Sun, and applications developers, perhaps including Lotus Development Corp and Ashton-Tate Corp are expected to be at the meeting to endorse the interface.
