AT&T Co is stepping up its battle with British Telecommunications Plc with launch of its WorldSource customised communication services for multinationals, and has announced its plans for Europe and the Far East. In Europe it plans to invest $350m over the next five years and create 650 jobs to launch the speech and data services, which will offer common features and performance standards globally, and will be offered to European multinationals in 1994. It already has data management centres in the UK and the Netherlands, and will add more. It is also looking for partnerships with telecommunications operators through a new WorldPartners Association. In the Far East it already has two partners in the shape of Kokusai Denshin Denwa Co Ltd and presently state-owned Singapore Telecom, and the trio say they will spend over $100m over the next few years on WorldPartners. Six multinational companies, among them Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co, Motorola Inc and Honeywell Inc, already agreed to use the services.
