AT&T START PRODUCTION AT FIRST ASIAN PC PLANT

AT&T Corp has started production at its first personal computer plant in Asia, at Hsinchu in Taiwan: the plant, set up by the company’s Taiwan affiliate, AT&T Taiwan Telecommunications Co Ltd, began production in October and plans to produce 100,000 units per year for sale to the Asian market; AT&T Taiwan Telecommunications is 60% owned by AT&T and 15% each by Taiwan’s Transportation & Communications Ministry and the Directorate General of Telecommunications; other local investors hold the remaining 10% of the unit.
