Following a successful trial of the data network with Comdisco Disaster Recovery Services Inc, AT&T Co is to launch what it says is the first Synchronous Optical Network from 200 locations US-wide under the name Accunet T155, operating at a standard SONET OC-3 rate of 155Mbps; it will be supported by the service restoration capability of AT&T’s Fastar Fast Automatic Restoration system, which can find alternate routes and in most cases restore service over a new path within minutes following a disruption from a cable cut or a natural disaster; it is expected to be used for medical imaging, supercomputer communications and high-definition television and for concentrating data applications from multiple local and wide area networks over a single line; it should be 10% to 15% cheaper than the T45 service.
