AT&T Co says it plans to launch its SmartPhone telephone with a touch sensitive screen display instead of the usual keypad, sometime in the third quarter of 1993: it will initially be launched through AT&T’s joint marketing venture with Huntington Bancshares, which will provide banking services through the telephone; AT&T, which says it also has another partner lined up, declined to say how much the phone would cost, but indicated that it would initially be at the high end of the range from $100 to $500; Philips Electronics NV is launching a similar new display screen telephone and will ship this month in the US, Reuter notes; the Philips phone, which it calls an enhanced telephone, will cost about $640.
