AT&T Co plans to increase the processor power of its Number 5 ESS digital telephone exchange fivefold, so that the thing can support up to 25,000 lines: the company is also enhancing the switch to make it easier for phone companies to add new services like computer networking and high quality video: the upgrade programme is going under the name ServiceNet-2000.
