AT&T Co has chosen General Electric Co’s Astro-Space division to design and build its next generation of communications satellites in a contract valued at about $250m: the contract calls for Telstar 4 satellites which will operate in both the C and Ku-bands and will replace AT&T’s US domestic Telstar 3 satellites; two of the three satellites are to be launched in 1993 and 1994, and will carry 24 C-band channels and 20 Ku-band channels, and will enable users to change from one radio frequency band to the other aboard the satellite.
