AT&T Paradyne and IBM Corp yesterday announced that they are to collaborate on channel extension technology based on the 3172 Interconnect Controller to extend Escon for System/390 mainframe channels at T-3 rates, 45Mbps, in local and wide area networks: the first product will be delivered in 1992, and it will enable users to send high-volume, high-speed data from mainframes to some devices; AT&T Paradyne says that its current channel extensions, the Pixnet XL/1000 and XL/2000, will be interoperable with the product; Paradyne will have marketing responsibility and it says that details of the agreement will be available at a later date.
