AT&T Network Systems and Eicon Technology Inc have introduced a new gateway device called the Local Area Network Communications Server that is said to link personal computer users regardless of distance: it acts as a gateway into AT&T’s Datakit II Virtual Circuit Switch, through which users can connect to host computers or compatible networks also served by Datakit II VCS; the Communications Server consists of an AT&T Model 6386 personal computer configured with a standard token ring or StarLAN interface card, the EiconCard intelligent co-processor board, and Eicon’s Access Gateway software.
