AT&T Co, which already has a broad-brush agreement with NEC Corp to collaborate on future generations of semiconductors, is now discussing with the Japanese company the possibility of jointly producing digital mobile telephones for sale worldwide consumption, NEC said. According to NEC, the primary focus of the talks with AT&T is a co-operative venture in Japan, but they are also discussing a worldwide link-up. The Japanese government in February authorised establishment next year of a digital cellular system operating in the 800MHz bank. NEC currently makes 40,000 phones monthly for worldwide sale.
