AT&T and LG Electronics have introduced the eXpo smartphone, which features 1GHz processor, Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional and optional integrated pico projector.
The companies said that the handset will be compatible with AT&T’s high speed packet access (HSPA) 7.2Mbps technology, which provides speed boost to 3G network. The mobile pico projector snaps onto the back of the device and allows users to share presentations, slideshows and online videos straight from their mobile phone.
The mobile projector, which weighs around 1.8 ounces, provides users with new technology in a compact design, featuring a projection distance eight feet. The new smartphone also eliminates the need for pin codes and passwords with smart sensor fingerprint recognition from AuthenTec, which complements the touchscreen user interface by also providing cursor control for text editing, 4-way menu navigation, and turbo-scroll feature for browsing of long emails, contact lists or websites, the company said.
According to AT&T, the new smartphone features a 3.2-inch external touchscreen with 16M colour and a slider design with a full size QWERTY keypad. For the dynamic multi-tasker, eXpo provides users with functionality that supports an RSS Viewer, Podcast and aGPS. It also comes with a 5.0 megapixel camera with built-in auto flash, supports up to 16GB removable microSD memory card for music and photo storage.
AT&T plans to deploy HSPA 7.2 initially in Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles and Miami by the end of the year. It plans to deploy HSPA 7.2 in 25 of the nation’s markets by the end of 2010, and to reach about 90% of its existing 3G network footprint with HSPA 7.2 by the end of 2011.
Ehtisham Rabbani, vice president of product strategy and marketing for LG Mobile Phones, said:LG eXpo is the perfect balance of mobile innovation and design. Enabling users to meet their professional and personal computing needs from the palm of their hands, LG eXpo makes on-the-go communication an effortless luxury.
The eXpo will go on sale on December 7, and will be available to enterprise customers and for purchase online for $199.99 after mail-in rebate and with a new two year contract. The LG Mobile Projector will be available in the coming weeks for $179.99.
