Don’t believe any flack based in an outpost like Brussels when he or she contradicts information that has come out of a multinational’s global headquarters: despite the denials from AT&T Brussels, it is now clear that AT&T was tying its bid for a stake in Compagnie des Machines Bull SA to the granting of a telecommunications operator’s licence in France, and Reuter reports from Paris that AT&T is saying that it has become less enthusiastic about its plans to take a stake in Bull since it discovered it could not get an operating licence soon – AT&T’s interest in Bull has always been centred on telecommunications services and the acquisition of a licence to operate in the basic services market in France, executive vice-president Victor Pelson was quoted as saying.
