Further distancing itself from its 21% investment, Ing C Olivetti & Co SpA, AT&T Co has started marketing its 3B Unix supermicros in France under its own AT&T Data Systems name. The company plans to go entirely through resellers in Europe, and says that while Olivetti will continue to market the machines as well, resellers said they wanted the manufacturer present here in Europe, and wanted a choice of supplier, according to Computer Systems News. The reason for starting first in France is that the 3B machines are said to be widely used there as viewdata file servers. AT&T Data Systems says it does not intend to market personal computers – either from Olivetti or from other sources in Europe. Olivetti, which built 517,000 personal computers last year, exported 110,000 of them on to AT&T in the US in 1988.
