AT&T’s Remote Monitor combines IP video cameras and environmental sensor options to enable small business owners to monitor their business locations. Owners can stay connected to offices, warehouses and retail stores through Java-enabled wireless devices from AT&T or through computers with a broadband connection. It also enables business owners to customize alerts and actions based on their specific needs.

In a similar move, wireless operator Bulgaria Telecom launched BTC ADSL Eye, a security and video surveillance service, in October 2007. This offering enables users to observe homes or office through the web using IP cameras connected to their ADSL service.

AT&T claims that the Remote Monitor service can be scaled and upgraded, including the ability to monitor multiple sites from a single account. In addition, it can provide digital video recording (DVR) capabilities to small business customers. The DVR includes a 250GB hard drive, which supports looped recording of up to four MPEG4 cameras for 30 days.

AT&T has priced its Remote Monitor as three separate starter kits: the basic version at $199, the premium version at $249 and the $349 deluxe version. Monthly service charges begin at $9.95 for a single location, with optional plans to support up to five different locations.
