AT&T IS RETAINED BY SOUTHWESTERN BELL MOBILE SYSTEMS FOR EQUIPMENT AND SUPPORT

By CBR Staff Writer

AT&T Co has been retained by Southwestern Bell Mobile Systems to provide equipment and support in some markets to enable the Baby Bell to prepare for future growth in the cellular industry: the multi-million dollar agreement is expected to result in the sale of AT&T Autoplex equipment, including hardware, software and services over the next three years; in one part of the agreement, AT&T will place 28 Autoplex cell sites in Kansas City and Wichita, Kansas to meet immediate growth needs; AT&T says that its Bell Laboratories unit dreamed up the idea of cellular telephony way back in 1947.
