AT&T INTRODUCES FASTAR CABLE RE-ROUTING SYSTEM

By CBR Staff Writer

AT&T Co is to introduce a new system in Florida that automatically routes traffic around severed fibre optic cable: called Fastar, it is claimed to be able to restore more than 67,000 circuits in minutes by sensing cable breaks and using alternative routes for traffic until repair is possible; Fastar was developed by AT&T Bell Laboratories and AT&T Network Services Division, and will cover virtually all of the AT&T US fibre network by year-end.
