AT&T Co’s Unix Software Operation has licensed software technology from Object Design Inc, Burlington, Massachusetts for possible inclusion in a future version of the object-oriented C++ Language System. The technology, known as parameterised types, assists programmers in developing standard libraries of safe, reusable code and it is claimed to help lower the costs of developing and maintaining software because it encourages more widespread use of standard software libraries. The ANSI X3J16 committee has said that parameterised types – a facility for creating templates for classes of objects such as lists, vectors and associative arrays, should be in the standard.
