AT&T Microelectronics of Berkeley Heights, New Jersey has introduced a family of application specific parts that, it claims, offer one of the industry’s most advanced combinations of high speed and low power. The family of emitter coupled logic gate array and standard cell ASICs is designed for a number of high performance applications, including high speed computing and imaging, advanced automatic test equipment and instrumentation, lightwave data systems, graphics and data conversion equipment and high end workstations. Based on AT&T’s BEST-I Bipolar Enhanced Super-self-aligned Technology, the family includes three BEST-I gate arrays, the 1,000-gate BE1000, 4,000-gate BE4000, and 9,000-gate BE9000, and standard cell ASICs that are available up to 20,000-gate density. Both ASIC types are supported by a common 100-member function library. Each logic function is available in three speed-power ratings (unloaded): 0.5 mW at 400pS; 1.0mW at 250pS; and 2.0mW at 150pS. Both gate array and standard cell BEST-I ASICs are supported with front-end design libraries for Mentor Graphics and Viewlogic design software. AT&T also provides turnkey ASIC design services and custom design, using its suite of automatic design tools. The BEST-I ASICs follow industry standards, with a single -5.2V or -4.5V power supply, emitter coupled logic 10KH and TTL input-output levels, and an operating temperature range of -55oC to +125oC.
