AT&T FINED FOR USING NEW CHEMICAL WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE IN VIOLATION OF TOXIC SUBSTANCES CONTROL ACT 1976

By CBR Staff Writer

AT&T Co is deeply hurt at being fined $1m by the Environmental Portection Agency, and even more so at what it feels are positively vindictive efforts by the US body to make the punishment fit the crime: the crime was starting to use a new chemical without having given 90 days’ prior notice of its use in violation of the Toxic Substances Control Act 1976, and as well as the fine, Ma Bell has to educate its employees in the regulation, check all of its plants to see that they are abiding by the rule, and, unkindest cut of all, bearing the cost of informing the entire US electronics and semiconductor industries about the rule.
