AT&T Co filed with the US Federal Communications Commission for rate increases on US and international long-distance services to take effect September 29, pending tariff review; the hike would raise overall rates on direct-dialled interstate calls less than 1%, and rates on direct-dialled international calls from the US mainland to 79 countries an average of 5% – this is just after AT&T agreed much lower accounting rates with Mercury Communications Ltd (CI No 2,256).
