international calls, but will set a net reduction in direct-dialled out-of-state long distance prices, from August 19: the net effect of the proposed changes filed with the Federal Communications Commission, would amount to an increase of $28m a year; the proposal includes an increase to $0.14 from $0.13 per minute for direct dialled, out-of-state evenings from 11 to 55 miles and a 25 cent increase in the operator-handled charge for out-of-state and international calls for which the caller does not dial the number; the cut is to $0.14 from $0.15 a minute for direct dialled, out-of-state evening calls over distances of from 431 to 925 miles.
