Bet you didn’t know that American Telephone & Telegraph Co had been living a lie all these years – ever since 1885: according to AT&T’s Jim Byrne, the old name indicates older-style technology – we were never in the telegraph business anyway; he says that in the 1880s it was deemed expedient to have telegraph as part of our name to gain approval to string wires for telephones.
