AT&T Co announced late Thursday that it would cut 14,000 to 15,000 jobs over the next two years in a move designed to save $900m annually: more than half of the job cuts will be among managers in its long distance business, and its New Jersey locations will bear the brunt; it will also close sales and service operations in Providence, Rhode Island; Charleston, West Virginia; Bloomington, Minnesota; Cheyenne, Wyoming; Itasca, Illinois; Pleasanton, California; and Silver Spring, Maryland; about 8,000 management jobs will be affected, including headquarters staff and administrative support functions, while the rest will be non-management posts in operations and clerical areas.
