AT&T Co is involved with researchers from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, California on development of a new way of sending information from one computer network to other networks at extremely high speed: Livermore, with funding from the US Department of Energy’s Defense Programs technology transfer initiative, will spend about $2.2m and AT&T an equivalent amount; under the preliminary agreement, researchers will develop interfaces to link a high-speed computer network being built at Livermore with US networks elsewhere using the emerging Asynchronous Transfer Mode technology.
