AT&T Co and NCR Corp say that they are making progress in their merger negotiations but caution that agreement may still not be reached – and to keep up the pressure, NCR invoked its new bylaw to increase the size of its board to 14 from 12, electing chief executive Chuck Exley to return as chairman and president Gilbert Williamson as a director; both were ousted in the shareholder vote at AT&T’s behest.
