AT&T Corp has reached a settlement with Microsoft Corp, over a lawsuit demanding that AT&T be given access to the NT 5.0 source code, so that it will interoperate with its Advanced Server for Unix product. Microsoft had previously refused to grant AT&T access to the 5.0 source code for the Advanced Server for Unix software that provides print and file services for NT on Unix systems. In the lawsuit launched in October 1997, AT&T sued Microsoft for breaching an original agreement signed in 1991. AT&T spokesperson Kevin Compton confirmed that the companies have now reached a settlement in principle, with a full settlement to be signed, sealed and delivered to the court by September 28, within the 60 day limit set for the case settlement, otherwise the action will automatically restart. A private resolution of the case comes as no surprise, with Microsoft still defending itself in a highly publicized Antitrust action from the Department of Justice. One of the conditions of the agreement with AT&T is that neither side will publicize the terms of the settlement.
