AT&T Co is pretty cross with Nintendo Co: stories appeared in the Los Angeles Times and the Wall Street Journal yesterday saying that AT&T had agreed a joint venture on a US-wide viewdata system that would use Nintendo games players as the terminals, but AT&T says while it routinely talks with other businesses about services they might offer over the AT&T network and that it was discussing a number of possibilities with Nintendo, no specific offerings had been determined, no business relationship had been agreed upon and no contracts signed; there are now 19m or so Nintendo Famicon video games machines in the US and the company says it always intended the things to be used as much more than games players, and initially marketed them as toys simply to get them into as many US homes as possible ready for more advanced computer services.
