AT&T has joined an organisation promoting the use of machine-to-machine communications.

One of the International M2M Council’s (IMC) first objectives will be to compile a library of M2M content, including in-depth user case studies to make businesses aware of the benefits of the Internet of things.

The IMC will cover broad areas of new M2M technologies including connected cars, mobile healthcare, home security, smart grid, asset assessment, and mobile supply-chain logistics.

With more than 15m connected devices in its network the IMC believes AT&T is well-placed to advise on the Internet of things, and has just opened a new M2M Foundry in Texas, intended to serve as an innovation hub for advancing solutions that connect assets and machines.

"We see the IMC as another opportunity to help educate businesses about how M2M solutions can help to transform their business," said Mobeen Khan, executive director of advanced mobility solutions at AT&T, who will also serve on the board.

The business solutions firm joins Digi International, Kore Telematics, Oracle, ORBCOMM, and Telit Wireless Solutions, as well as Deutsche Telekom, with more companies to be added in the near future.
