Natick, Massachusetts-based software firm Atria Software Inc has launched a software configuration management tool for Unix-based systems. It is called Clearcase Multisite, and Atria says it automatically supports parallel development and software re-use across geographically distributed project teams. It enables software engineers in separate locations to collaborate on development and to share software just as effectively as if they were working in one office, says Atria, noting that Clearcase Multisite works for large or small software projects in networks or otherwise. It will ship next quarter at $1,500 for the first concurrent user licence. In 1992, Atria was given a $4.1m boost in venture capital from its original investors, Matrix Partners and Sigma Partners, plus Highland Capital Partners and Morgenthaler Ventures. In that year, Atria launched Clearcase software, touted at the time as the industry’s most advanced management system for large software engineering projects.
