Atreve Software Inc, Cambridge, Massachusetts-based provider of web operations management software, is set to receive roughly $9m in venture funding from Cisco Systems Inc, Bessemer Venture Partners and others. Atreve offers a full line of software and services for the management of e-commerce web sites. Its flagship product is the WebSpective package, of which it recently announced the second version, which includes the capability of delivering content to multiple web servers. The main appeal of the company’s product is that despite the fact the majority of its functions can be found in various other stand-alone products, WebSpective offers it all in one package. According to initial investor Bessemer, the company offers solid technology and is savvy in its marketing. A spokesperson at Bessemer explained that Atreve stresses its focus on eliminating downtime, a practice that works well with CIOs who’ve invested heavily in ERP software and run commerce intensive web sites. The support from Cisco, in the form of roughly $1.5m, says a lot about Atreve’s load- balancing technology and signals that Cisco is willing to look beyond its own offerings in the area.
