Atos Healthcare has approximately 2,000 employees in the UK, including about 1,300 contract medical professionals. The company claims that this makes it the largest employer of doctors in the UK outside of the National Health Service itself.

By rebranding its healthcare operation, Atos is aiming to raise awareness of its skills in this area. The company is already providing occupational health services to over 6,000 NHS blood and transplant employees, as well as delivering the Choose and Book portion of the NHS’s controversial IT upgrade project and carrying out medical assessments for around 1 million patients.

Atos Healthcare is one of three specialist business units for Atos, alongside Atos Euronext, a provider of applications for stock exchanges, banks, and brokers, and Atos Worldline, which processes electronic transactions and offers electronic payments services and customer relationship management.

A significant restructuring process is currently underway at Atos, as the company attempts to turn around its recent poor performance. Last week, Atos announced that Philippe Germond would succeed Bernard Bourigeaud as CEO, although it did not give a timetable for the transition. The company has also been the subject of intense takeover speculation over the last few months, with interest coming from a number of private equity firms.
