ATI Technologies Inc is attempting to build on its strong position in the notebook graphics chip market with its new Rage Mobility 128. The Canadian company claims the 128-bit chip is 60% faster than competitor” offerings. The 8Mb chip comes in an ‘MDB&153’, which ATI claims offer significant power consumption reductions and motherboard space savings – important concerns for notebook manufacturers.

ATI already supplies Rage Mobility products to Dell Computer Corp, Apple Computer Inc, Compaq Computer Corp, Gateway Inc and IBM Corp. However, announcing its fourth quarter results last week the company warned that the Taiwan earthquake could affect supplies of its products over the next quarter. The 128 is sampling now priced at $55 in 10,000 unit quantities.
