ATI Technologies, Ontario, Canada, is shipping its new 16-bit graphics adapter VGABasic-16 which will be priced at $100: ATI claims that other VGA cards on the market start at around $300 and that it has managed to lower costs by developing its own chips and minimising the component count; the VGABasic-16 has a maximum resolution of 640 by 480 with 16 colours – with special drivers (not supplied by the company), it supports eight fonts.
