ATI Technologies Inc has released two new additions to its Rage graphics chip range – one of which its claims is the first accelerator that supports flat panel display technology. The Rage XL has an integrated transmission minimized differential signaling (TDMS) transmitter, which allows a direct digital connection between a PC with the Rage chip installed, without the need for digital to analog conversion and vice versa. The other addition to the Rage line is the XC, a low cost general purpose 2D/3D accelerator. Both chips are built using a 0.25 micron process, with either 4Mb or 8Mb of memory. The chips are slated for release in March. The XL is priced at $24 per chip and the XC is $18.
