ATF (The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives), a law enforcement agency in the United States Department of Justice that protects communities from violent criminals, criminal organisations, has launched a mobile application for Apple iPhone and iPod touch devices.

The new app, developed in cooperation with NIC, allows users to learn about ATF history and areas of expertise, find their local ATF field office and sign up for e-mail updates on the latest ATF related news.

ATF public affairs division chief Scot Thomasson said ATF strives to use new technology to educate the public about its role in reducing firearms-related violence and making dangerous communities safe places to live

"Working with NIC in the development of this downloadable app, ATF hopes to reach a younger and more tech savvy portion of the population," Thomasson said.

The company claims that their future updates to the app will provide additional information and increase functionality for ATF’s industry and law enforcement partners.
