The IDT 89HPES16T7, adopted by Asus, is a 16-lane, 7-port PCI Express switch. The architecture is expected to overcome I/O limitations to accomplish system expansion design with more endpoints at optimal cost efficiency while providing simplified design architecture, according to IDT. The IDT switching is expected to be configurable to address the I/O connectivity challenges faced by systems requiring a blend of basic connectivity as well as demanding, high performance connectivity on a single chip.
IDT said that, as with other members of the IDT family of PCI Express switching services, the IDT 89HPES16T7 has been optimized for power efficiency, minimizing system thermal management requirements. The advanced low-power design techniques help Asus achieve reduced power consumption,providing simplified design and end-user cost savings as well as improvements in time-to-market, added IDT.
