Asus releases Eee Pad Transformer Honeycomb tablet source code

Undercuts iPad 2 in price, now at £361

By CBR Staff Writer

Taiwanese electronics maker Asus has released the source code for its new Honeycomb powered tablet Eee Pad Transformer before it hit the shelves in the UK.

The Asus Eee Pad Transformer comes with an optional keyboard dock that turns it into a laptop and has a 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor. It has a 10.1-inch display with a 1280 x 800 resolution.

Last month, ASUS announced the first shipments of the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer, a tablet for both media consumption and mobile productivity. The tablet features an expandable keyboard docking station and runs on the new Android 3.0 operating system, Honeycomb.

Other features include HDMI, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a five-megapixel rear camera and a two-megapixel front facing one, and a microSD card reader.

The source code for the Transformer was originally slated for a release in the UK in a week.

The 16GB model was priced at £380 (£430 with the keyboard), but is now being offered for £361, undercutting the entry-level iPad2 by £38.
