Those runaway memory chip prices have forced AST Research Inc, Irvine, California to raise prices on a number of its systems and memory expansion boards: saying that prices for 256Ks and 1Ms have risen between 100% and 300% since the beginning of the year, and AST has added between 10% and 15% to its products, depending on configuration and how much memory is included; it is also offering resellers versions of its products unpopulated with memory chips, in case they can find cheaper supplies than AST can.
