Irvine, California-based AST Research Inc has cut the price of its Premium Exec 386SX system by up to 30% and announced two new Premium Exec 386SX models: as from October 21, the 25MHz Premium Exec 386SX/25 Model 83V/4, with an 80Mb hard drive and 4Mb of random access memory, was cut by 30% to $2,700, and the Premium Exec 386SX/20 Model 43V, with 40Mb hard drive and 2Mb of random access memory is $2,400, also down by 30%; AST’s new models include the Premium Exec 386SX/25 Model 63V/4 and the Premium Exec 386SX/20 Model 83V/4; both are configured with 4Mb of system memory, expandable to 8Mb, and an 80Mb or 60Mb 2.5 hard disk drive; all models are available now; the Premium Exec 386SX/25 Model 63V/4 costs $3,000 and the 7 lb notebook is said to offer up to 25% performance improvement over 20MHz 80386SX/20 notebooks; also, AST has introduced its first colour notebook for under $5,000 – the Premium Exec 386SX/25C has a VGA passive-matrix display, 4Mb of memory plus floppy and hard drives; available now, no prices.
