Asia Satellite Telecommunications Co Ltd reports that its AsiaSat 2 bird has been granted an export licence from the US Department of Commerce for delivery to China for launch in early 1995: AsiaSat is equally owned by Hutchison Whampoa Ltd of Hong Kong, China International Trust & Investment Corp and Cable & Wireless Plc; AsiaSat 2 was manufactured by Martin Marietta Astro Space, and the footprint of a single C-band transponder on the satellite spreads from Turkey to Tokyo, Commonwealth of Independent States to Australia, or 3,300m people; a third bird is now planned.
