The longest undersea fibre optic cable in Asia, a $335m 4,650-mile link between Japan’s Miura city to Singapore via Miyazaki city on Kyushu island, Toucheng in Taiwan, Cape D’Aguilar off Hong Kong and Cherating in Malaysia, has been inaugurated: the network is a collaboration between Telekom Malaysia Bhd, Hong Kong Telecommunications Ltd, Singapore Telecommunications Ltd, Taiwan’s International Telecommunication Development Corp, Kokusai Denshin Denwa Co Ltd and International Digital Communications Inc; a total of 37 other telephone companies from around the world will also use the network, which has taken some two years to build.
