Asian companies were hit much harder than European companies by the CIH virus which activated on April 26 according to Finnish-based security software company, Data Fellows. The company told ComputerWire that around 100 corporate machines in Hong Kong and over 300 in Singapore were disabled by the virus, while damage in Europe ranged from 25 machines in Sweden to just one in the UK. Press warnings in Europe had companies rushing to check their systems the weekend before the activation of the virus, greatly reducing the damage it caused, said Data Fellows.
